Snake tips and strategy
Once you know the rules, most improvement comes from planning space — not raw speed. These practical tips help you last longer and score more as the snake fills the board.
1. Think in corridors, not chases
Early on it is tempting to dart straight at every pellet. As you grow, leave yourself an exit path. Sweep in wide loops near the edges (in wrap mode) so the center stays open for emergencies.
2. Prefer calm turns over last-second swipes
On phones, commit to a direction a little early. Late flicks at high speed are the most common way players collide with their own tail. If you overshoot, wrap mode often lets you circle around instead of reversing.
3. Treat bonuses as optional jackpots
Bonuses pay well but disappear quickly. Only divert for one if the path is clear. A long detour through your own body for a bonus is rarely worth a game over.
4. Use boost sparingly
Boost is best for closing a safe gap to food or finishing a bonus before it expires. Holding boost while the board is crowded usually ends the run.
5. Learn both field modes
- Wrap: practice recovery routes and “spiral” patterns.
- Walls: practice braking early and keeping a one-cell buffer from borders.
6. Watch the speed level
Speed climbs every two foods. Mentally reset after each level-up: shorten your planning horizon and avoid fancy cutbacks until your timing adjusts.
7. Warm up with short goals
Try mini-challenges: survive to speed 4, clear three bonuses in one run, or beat yesterday’s best by 10 points. Small goals keep practice focused.
